A Cedartown Fire Department Lieutenant was arrested and briefly jailed on Thursday before making bail on charges related to an altercation that took place in January at an area golf club.
Jeremy Manning, who was still on administrative leave today from the fire department, was charged with two counts of misdemeanor simple battery and was released on a $2,000 bond from the Polk County Jail on February 11.
Manning was in an altercation with another man and his son at Meadow Lakes Golf Course in the Cedartown area on January 30. An investigation was undertaken by the Polk County Police – who had sought help initially from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation – and charges were filed against Manning.
Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd said that “Manning was the aggressor in the fight” and reported that a pistol was pulled by the son of the man initially involved in the altercation, but no shots were fired and it was placed back where it was concealed after Manning left the scene.
Additional charges could be forthcoming, Dodd said.
