Land cleared for housing development project on Girard Ave.

Land is being stripped away on a piece of property on Girard Avenue that earlier this year was approved for a new housing development in Cedartown.

City Commissioners gave their thumbs up to the project back in July following a round of public comments and their own thoughts on the need for additional housing options anywhere the land can be found, and developers willing to undertake the work.

Earlier this month, the big machinery got into the property where 15 houses are planned to go into the parcel being developed by Tim Perkins and David Autrey on a nine-acre stretch.

The land sits alongside the corner of Branch Street and West Girard Avenue, close to wastewater treatment plants for GEO Specialty Chemical and the City of Cedartown, and will provide access to future homeowners to the Bert Wood Youth and Athletic Complex.

Perkins and Autrey plan to build single family homes on the stretch of land on Branch Street totaling up to nine acres.

They’ll also install an access trail to the park for families who want to utilize local recreation opportunities at Bert Wood.
