Mr. John “Gary” Redding

Mr. John “Gary” Redding, age 78, of Cedartown, GA, passed away Monday morning, April 25, 2022, at his residence.

A native of Cedartown and Polk County, Gary was born February 17, 1944, son of the late former Sheriff of Polk County, John Judson Redding and Mamie Lou Bridges Redding. He was associated with Bank of America for over 38 years.

Gary then became Director of the Cedartown Auditorium for 5 years. He was a man of many talents and loved singing barbershop quartet music, singing with The Music Men for over 17 years, even getting the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at an Atlanta Braves game.

He was a ring announcer for Golden Gloves boxing matches and called some matches during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Yvonne Redding Lowe.

Gary is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Hammond Redding; children, Gary Todd Redding, Bryan Scott (Amy) Redding, and Wendy Redding (Anthony) Dobson; grandchildren, Kristopher John (Kelsi) Redding, Chandler Vas Redding, and Sophia Danielle Key; great-grandchildren Brooklyn Redding and Peyton Redding; brother, Tony Redding; sister, Sheila Redding Barrett.

Funeral services for Gary will be Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. in the Cedartown First United Methodist Church with Father Kemper Anderson officiating.

The family will receive friends at Cedartown First Methodist Church Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, Gary’s family requests memorial donations be made to Murphy-Harpst Children’s Center, 740 Fletcher Street, Cedartown, GA, 30125.
