Azaleas and dogwoods are blooming brightly and the weather is finally feeling like spring here in Polk County as the season has fully changed in Georgia.
Spring also brings a return of all the critters great and small, including the butterflies.
Amanda Hogan of Chroma Storm Arts submitted the above photo to Polk Today as part of our ongoing Hometown Photo series, showing off this brightly colored male eastern tiger swallowtail butterfly in a garden in the Rockmart area.
This is one of the most common butterflies in the area, and found all across the United States and North America. They are also the state butterfly of Georgia.
Those who might want to attract these colorful butterflies can plant sun-loving, nectar-producing flowers throughout the growing season in their gardens.
