Mrs. Hattie Marie McGatha “Polly” Holmes, age 86, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
Mrs. Polly was born on December 20, 1937, in Piedmont, AL, a daughter of the late John McGatha and Mary Frances Griffin McGatha.
She had lived the greater part of her life in Rockmart and was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Mrs. Polly was a housewife and homemaker who loved to travel and was a great cook. She was all about her family and cherished the time she was able to spend with them.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Polly was preceded in death by her husband, T.F. “Buddy” Holmes, three brothers, Earl, Grady, and L.J. McGatha; and seven sisters, Pat, Annie Lou, Ann, Ruth, Ruby, Laura Bell, and Surlla Mae.
Mrs. Polly is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Olin Streetman, and Barbara and Joey Norris; nine grandchildren, Rebecca (Chris) Hindmon, Crystal (Linzy) Dillard, Constance (Allen) Bowman, Hillary (Colt) Deems, Isaac (Mary) Streetman, Mischa Norris, Devin Ploof, Levi (Cassidy) Laffitte, and Braden Mobbs; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister-in-law, Shelvie McGatha; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Polly will be Friday, February 16, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Ridge Baptist Church with Elder Tim Deems and Elder Colt Deems officiating. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Polly’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home on Thursday evening, February 15, 2024, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will include Isaac Streetman, Mckade Bowman, Devin Ploof, Levi Laffitte, Deacon Hindmon, Abel Deems, Blake Trammell, and Dustin Trammell.
