GALLERY: Rivers Alive cleans up around Rockmart for annual event

Keep Polk Beautiful continues to try and tackle all the trash found on local trails, parks and even roadways. Yet it keeps piling up and in their latest event they continued a tradition of trying to keep the worst of it out of local waterways.

The 2024 Rivers Alive cleanup event brought out dozens of people to Rockmart on October 12 to find as much rubbish as they could to

Rivers Alive participants made their way out to Seaborn Jones Park this past Saturday morning as the starting point and went along the Euharlee Creek and Silver Comet Trail pulling out everything from paper cups to bald tires from around the area.

Many of the items that end up in creeks, rivers and lakes are typically never dumped into the waterway itself, but move downhill with the flow of stormwater runoff and eventually are carried one way or another into places they should never end up.

The volunteers pulled dozens of bags of trash out of the area around the park and downtown Rockmart, and carried away several tires as well by the time it was over.

The Cedartown Junior Service League provided lunch for volunteers on Saturday as the cleanup came to a close before noon.
