Mrs. Frances Hames Chapman, age 88, of Aragon, GA, formerly of Albany, GA, passed away Saturday afternoon, December 2, 2023, in Rome, GA.
Mrs. Chapman was born in Taylorsville, GA, on August 26, 1935, a daughter of the late Presley Harrison Hames and Bessie Mae Dover Hames.
She had spent her childhood days in Taylorsville and lived in Albany for 30 years before moving back to Aragon. Mrs. Chapman retired from General Motors and was of the Baptist faith. Early on, she helped her mother take care of her younger brothers and sisters. Mrs. Chapman loved working in her garden and taking care of her flowers and enjoyed reading.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Chapman was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Chapman. A son, Ricky Bailey, seven brothers and seven sisters also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Chapman is survived by two daughters, Cathy Johnson and Pat Doby; sister, Annie Ledbetter (Ed Streetman). Several grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Chapman will be Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev, Steven Swift officiating. Mrs. Chapman will be carried to Albany on Wednesday to be interred in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Chapman’s family will receive friends at Alis Miller & Son Funeral Home Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour.
