Come celebrate the star-spangled banner next Saturday at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in Cedartown during an American Flag Waving Event.
The August 1 event is being held from 2 to 5 p.m., and Sheriff Johnny Moats made it clear from the start that it is not a protest, but an opportunity to show the patriotic spirit of Polk County. The event will strictly allow just three flags: the U.S. flag, the Georgia state flag and the thin blue line flag.
Moats said he was approached by Scott Shielder with the idea for the event and decided to help.
“I thought it was a good idea with all the protesting and the hate in our country right now, it felt like a good idea to do something to celebrate our country and flag,” Moats said
Participants are also reminded that as a family-oriented event and kid-friendly, the event will be kept peaceful and civil. Moats also encourages parents to dress their children in patriotic garb for the day.
Most important to note for participants is that no open carry will be allowed for the event, being held at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
“Polk County Sheriff Johnny Moats is behind us 100% and will be displaying the Polk Sheriff’s Dept. Humvee is painted with the American flag motif. It has a flag mount and a big flag as well,” the announcement reported
Parking will be in the lot beside the DMV. Those needing an address can put 172 Cline Ingram Jackson Road, Cedartown into their GPS.
