The three weeks of early voting prior to the run-off for two U.S. Senate seats and a Public Service Commission position are underway, and already hundreds have voted in person and more than 1,000 absentee paper ballots are back to the Polk County Board of Elections.
Monday’s early voting total ended with 666 in-person votes, and 1,067 absentee ballots have been returned so far to bring the overall total of votes to 1,733.
Additional votes are expected to be added to that tally today as early voting to determine who will represent Georgia in the Senate in Washington continues, as well as the race for Public Service Commissioner.
Senator David Perdue is seeking to retain his seat against Democratic challenger Jon Ossoff, while Senator Kelly Loeffler appointed earlier in the year to take over the seat seeks to return to finish out the time left against Democratic challenger Rev. Raphael Warnock.
The Public Service Commission race features Republican Lauren Bubba McDonald Jr., the incumbent, and Democratic challenger Daniel Blackman.
Early voting continues today through Friday at the Board of Elections office at 144 West Ave., Cedartown from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Next week, early voting will only be available from December 21 through December 23 – with the offices closed for the holidays on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day – and the following week from December 28 through December 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The final week of early voting will provide opportunity for voters to utilize either the Board of Elections office in Cedartown, or the Nathan Dean Community Center at 605 Goodyear Ave., Rockmart. Absentee ballots can also still be requested from the Board of Elections office. Call 770-749-2103 for more information, or visit the Secretary of State’s My Voter Page to request one online.
