Fun for all is planned for downtown Rockmart this evening as Chroma Storm Arts and The Mosh Pit Podcast team up to host a block party downtown.
The free event planned from 4 to 9 p.m. includes the opportunity to shop, eat and enjoy an evening in downtown Rockmart as the businesses owned by a couple come together to host the Cruise In & Rock Out Block Party.
Chroma Storm Arts, located at 120 E. Elm St., Rockmart, opened in the past year after owner Amanda Hogan sought to host a creative space for teaching acrylic pouring painting – along with mixed media and art scrapbooking – as well as provide gallery space for artists on a rotating basis to show off local talents and give Rockmart something culturally different to enjoy.
“I wanted to paint a painting for my house, and it has its original seafoam green subway tiles in it, and I couldn’t get rid of those,” she said. “So I started pouring because I couldn’t find anything to match. That quickly grew to a Youtube channel, with a good response and good subscriber bases.”
Then she decided to open Chroma Storm Arts because she believed it would be much easier to teach people in person instead of through a lens. She chose Rockmart not only because she lives here – though still works in Marietta as a hair stylist – but because she wants to see creative businesses provide different opportunities for all ages – especially teens.
“I felt like there wasn’t a lot for people to do in Rockmart, and I really want to grow the city to a cultural arts destination,” she said. “Where people will seek out downtown Rockmart to hang out on Friday nights, or Saturdays and Sundays in between church.”
Classes are available by group session and those interested can learn more at the Chroma Storm Arts website about how to book.
The Mosh Pit Podcast, hosted by Hogan’s boyfriend Wes Everett, features interviews with independent musicians and music, with more than 100 episodes made.
