CPD: Driver involved in Feb. 4 wreck passes away in hospital; investigation continues

Cedartown Police investigators are working to determine what caused a collision on February 4 that saw the driver of one vehicle pass away after spending several days in the hospital.

Chief Jamie Newsome said his department received additional assistance this week from the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) in gathering data from the two vehicles involved in the wreck that took place on Feb. 4 around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of South Main Street and the Highway 27 Bypass in Cedartown.

Newsome said the driver of a 2011 Kia Sorrento – Lynn Keener, 68, of Carrollton – was injured along with another passenger when the driver of a 2017 Toyota 4Runner collided with Keener’s vehicle in the intersection, impacting on the driver’s side.

Both drivers and the passenger were all transported to the hospital last week following the collision for treatment.

Keener passed away earlier this week. The reason for her death has yet to be officially determined, Newsome said.

He said investigators are still working to also determine what caused the crash, and charges may be pending against the driver of the Toyota 4Runner.

Newsome said additional information will be released when available as the investigation continues.
