Polk County Commissioners are gathering online later this afternoon and on Wednesday evening, first to discuss the budget in a work session and then to hold a special session to approve items tomorrow.
Today’s meeting starts at 5:15 p.m. at this Zoom link for the budget work session, where it is expected that Commissioners and county administration will work out the final details and answer questions on the numbers for the FY 2021 budget. The budget, which is being worked out this year as the county determines where tax collections will lay this year, has been in the works since earlier in the year.
A new round of tax appraisals for this year however caused the county to re-evaluate the numbers in the past months as taxpayers also had the chance to submit appeals on those new evaluations for their property and subsequent new bills.
Wednesday’s special called board meeting set to start at 6 p.m. will likely give the County Commission the opportunity to approve final FY 2021 numbers, approve millage rates and more before they are required to go off to the state and this year’s tax bills be printed. The Wednesday session will also be held on Zoom at this link. A full agenda was not yet available at the time of this writing, and as soon as it is provided updates will be forthcoming.
