A new death was reported for Polk County in the midweek report from the Georgia Department of Public Health’s afternoon update, along with additional positives for COVID-19.
The death reported by DPH was that of an 84-year-old woman with pre-existing conditions that were co-morbidity factors along with COVID-19, per the report. She’s one of nine women who have perished from the virus since tracking began per the DPH reporting.
Overall, Polk County’s death toll now sits at 12, and the total number of cases is at 991. Hospitalizations did not increase with the daily report and remained at 45.
The last reported deaths from the virus came on August 5, when DPH report that both an 87-year-old and a 68-year-old woman perished from COVID-19.
Statewide, another 2,391 positives were added to the total figure that now sits at 243,982 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Georgia. That is out of more than 2.2 million tests administered since tracking began for the virus, or a 10.7% positive rate at the moment for all testing combined, antibody and molecular.
Out of the total number of people who have tested positive, 22,664 people have needed medical treatment for the virus. That increased by another 235 patients in Wednesday’s report, and out of that total figure some 4,143 people in total have needed intensive care to combat COVID-19.
Sadly, Georgia has lost 4,849 people due to COVID-19, an increase of another 56 deaths in the midweek report.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention put the total of confirmed cases as of August 18 at 5,460,429, an increase of 39,318 new positives in a 24-hour period between Monday and Tuesday. That figure also included 1,172 new deaths from the virus, bringing the toll to 171,012 people who have lost their lives due to COVID-19.
