Counting COVID Cases: two new positives to start week, state figures increase by 2,300+

Just as it has worked out in past weeks, Polk County figures went down again for Monday. Yet every week over past months, with that decrease of new cases on Monday comes a bigger jump before the week ends.

Polk County’s increase of new COVID-19 positives was down to just two cases for Monday, with no new increases in the total number of deaths or hospital patients in the past 24 hours as well according to the latest figures from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

That put Polk County’s total at 1,074 positives, 56 hospital patients who have been treated for the virus or are actively at the hospital and 12 deaths.

Statewide, the number of positives increased by another 2,337 to bring the total since tracking began in February to 256,253 positives statewide. That is out of a total of more than 2.5 million tests conducted statewide, putting Georgia at a 10.7% positive rate at the moment.

Georgia’s number of hospital patients went back up by another 56 on the day, which puts the number of patients who have needed medical treatment for the virus at 23,425 in total. That includes 4,272 intensive care admissions since tracking began.

COVID-19 claimed the lives of another 25 Georgians in the past 24 hours, bringing the overall death toll to 5,156.
