Counting COVID Cases: Two new positives on Monday locally, statewide tally increases past 145,000 total

After seeing a local increase of another five cases on Sunday, Polk County only added two more to their total since tracking began to land at 417 in the latest report from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

The latest report did not include any new hospital cases or deaths at this time.

COVID-19 cases had been on a much greater rise in recent days and weeks here in Polk County, statewide and around the nation, but the past two days have seen a stark decrease in the number of new cases reported by the state. That doesn’t mean that a flattening trend is back around the corner by any means.

Statewide, Georgia’s total of new COVID-19 cases pushed up to 145,575, an increase of 2,452 on the day. New deaths only went up by three in Georgia, up in total to 3,176. Health officials did post 37 new hospital cases at 15,047 in total in the past 24 hours, and intensive care admissions up to 2,829.

Regionally, the numbers grew some as well in the past days.

Bartow County pushed up to 1,142 positives as the week begins, with 174 hospitalizations in total and 46 deaths. Paulding put up a total of 1,057 as of July 20, with 109 hospitalizations and 16 deaths.

In Floyd, the tally now sits at 867 cases of COVID-19 in total, with no major movement in hospitalizations at 61 and 15 deaths. Haralson to the south sat at 135 positives for the virus, with 18 people who have required hospitalization since tracking began and six deaths.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention put up a new 63,201 new cases of COVID-19 for July 20, bringing the full tally to 3,761,362 since tracking began earlier in the year. Sadly, another 498 people died nationwide to bring the total to 140,157 deaths.
