Two new deaths, and another hospital patient was reported on the day by the Georgia Department of Public Health’s afternoon report for Thursday.
The DPH data cited a 67-year-old male with co-morbidity factors involved – meaning that other conditions also contributed to his death – along with a 64-year-old female with unknown factors were the latest to perish from the virus. The death marks the second day in a row that COVID-19 has taken the lives of a Polk County resident.
That brought the overall number of deaths caused by COVID-19 since tracking began with the first case in early March to 24. It also raised October’s number of deaths to six overall.
Along with the increase, the data also noted another hospital patient was admitted from Wednesday to Thursday. That brought the total to 115 patients admitted since tracking began, and brought the total admitted since the beginning of the month to 13 so far.
Cases increased by another seven on the day, bringing that overall total up again to 1,584. The overall percentage of positives remained at 12.7% since tracking began, that out of the 12,472 test results reported to the DPH. That was an increase of just 55 new results reported to the state in the past day.
Georgia’s number of cases increased again, the third day in a row the numbers went up again day-over-day with 1,686 positives to jump to 336,241 across the state since late February tracking began.
That left the state at 9.7% positives overall out of the more than 3.4 million tests administered so far, a decrease of a tenth of a percentage point after four days of no change.
Along with the increase of new positives, the number of patients also went up day-to-day as well. Georgia added another 163 patients to statewide medical centers, bringing the number overall to 30,081.
Statewide, the death toll was up only slightly at 23 new Georgians overall who lost their lives due to COVID-19 or factors contributing to their death. Two of those came from Polk County. That brought the death toll up to 7,492 in total.
Nationally, the total number of COVID-19 positives confirmed by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention at 7,894,768 overall, an increase of 59,761 new cases as of October 14.
The U.S. death toll now sits at 216,025 overall since the beginning of the year, a daily increase of 831.
