Counting COVID Cases: Sunday report keeps local cases flat for weekend, state increases past 64,000

A second day in a row with the same numbers for Polk County marked a minor flattening and follows a general trend of no new positives over weekends, but cases continue to grow statewide.

Polk County remained at 178 positives overall, and stayed flat in the 15 hospitalizations and single death in the Georgia Department of Public Health’s June 21 report.

Statewide, 892 new cases were added to the tally to bring the total to 64,701 positives for COVID-19. A total of 839,001 tests had been administered since late February statewide.

There were 9,864 hospitalizations in total as of June 21, and out of that some 2,144 intensive care cases had been reported.

Sadly, the number of Georgians who had died from COVID-19 now stood at 2,643.

Around the area, numbers increased alongside the state tallies. Bartow County now has 596 total positives for the virus, but the 150 hospitalizations and 39 deaths remained flat.

Paulding’s June 21 tally was 466 total positives, with 87 hospitalizations and 14 deaths.

In Floyd, there are now 414 cases of the virus, and the hospitalizations still stood at 49, and the number of deaths remained at 15.

Haralson County reported 64 cases on Sunday, and remained at 16 hospitalizations and four deaths.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported 32,411 new positives for the virus to bring the total to 2,248,029 cases of COVID-19 in the United States reported overall. They also reported 560 new deaths to bring the national total to 119,615.
