
The numbers jumped dramatically on Tuesday both in Polk County and across the state for the total number of COVID-19 cases, according to the afternoon figures released by the Georgia Department of Public Health.
Polk County alone added 21 cases to the tally, bringing the total to 254 positives as of the Tuesday, July 7 daily report. It marks the largest increase on record for a 24 hour period locally.
The total in Georgia now sits at 100,470 since tracking began in February. That’s a daily increase of 3,406 new cases statewide in the past 24 hours.
Since the last update on Saturday, July 4 here on Polk.Today for COVID-19 numbers, Polk County’s tally has gone up by 24 in 48 hours. The county’s total went up by three on Sunday, and lost a case on Monday, July 6 before today’s increase. Statewide, the total number of cases increased in the past two days to 4,594 cases overall.
Locally, no new hospitalizations were reported and remained at 16 in total, and there remained only the single death.
That story was not the case on the state level. Though the death toll has only risen by 22 overall in the past days to 2,878 people who have perished, the number of people in the hospital is going up again. According to reporting since July 4, the number of hospitalizations rose by 563 patients to settle at today’s figure of 12,226 total since tracking began in late February. ICU admissions are gradually increasing as well based on new numbers, up since July 4 by 58 new admissions – 30 over the past 24 hours alone.
Regionally, COVID-19 numbers increased alongside Polk County’s. Today’s tally had Bartow County up to 807 positives, Paulding at 724, Floyd at 629 and Haralson at 87.
Nationwide, COVID-19 now has been found in 2,932,596 people, an increase of 46,329 new positives in the past 24 hours. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention now put the death toll at 130,133, only noting 322 new deaths since July 6.
