
Polk County only saw a slight increase – just a single case, bringing the total to 209 as of July 2 – but the state saw many more cases added to the tally in the past 24 hours according to the Georgia Department of Public Health’s latest report.
Another 3,472 cases of COVID-19 were reported on the state level bringing the new total to 87,709, the second day in a row of record increases on the state level of new positives. That’s out of 1,044,722 tests that have been administered since late February on the state level. Added to that tally is another increase in hospitalizations in the past 24 hours, now up to 11,500 people in total who have been admitted and treated for symptoms.
In the past day alone, that’s another 225 people out of the new positives needing treatment, and within that figure is the 32 new patients in intensive care. That total now sits at 2,389 people who have received ICU treatment while hospitalized due to the virus.
Georgia’s death toll sadly increased again in today’s report, the figure now at 2,849 people, an increase of another 18 victims from the virus.
In terms of local numbers, no new increases were reported in the 16 people hospitalized and the two deaths were now reported as just one again in today’s report. No immediate details as to why the change occurred can be reported, but officials have been reached out to for a comment on the number shifting downward.
Numbers from around Polk County have yet to stop increasing in terms of positive test results. In Bartow County, the latest total is reported at 727 for the day, with 158 people who have needed to be hospitalized and 42 deaths according to the DPH website. Paulding County saw an increase to 638 positives, with 93 people hospitalized and 16 deaths as of July 2.
The Floyd County figures stood at 552 people who have tested positive, with 55 hospitalized and 15 deaths since tracking began. Haralson County increased to 79 positive cases, but remained at 16 hospitalizations and five deaths from COVID-19.

Nationally, cases stood at 2,679,230, an increase of 54,357 as of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s latest update on July 2. The number of deaths in the United States increased by 725 to 128,024 in total.
