Only a handful of new positives were reported in the Georgia Department of Public Health’s daily afternoon report, along with new hospital patients for Polk County for COVID-19.
Seven new positives also saw Polk County surpass another milestone, landing at 1,302 cases in total for the virus in six months of tracking.
Additionally, the two more hospital patients increased the number treated locally from Polk County in medical facilities at 85 overall.
The majority of new patients have been reported over the months of July and August during an big jump in the spread of the virus amid a Summer that saw Polk County become a hotspot.
A positive note is no new deaths attributed to COVID-19 were included locally for the daily report. The number remains at 17 as of the state’s September 10 data update.
The state data reported that positives over the past two weeks are at 9.4%, and the overall positive percentage stood at 14.3% for the county.
An important reminder as COVID-19 daily reports continue to evolve: the numbers represented above are the figure the state is reporting for totals on a daily basis, but that figure is not a live total. Delays in the different ways that labs report results (a source revealed that some information is still being transmitted by fax) can impact how long a test result is put into the state system.
Thus the figures are not representative of the immediate situation still evolving in each community around the state around COVID-19. Keep this in mind when considering your level of risk while out in the community.
Please continue to wear a mask, practice social distancing when possible, use hand sanitizer and wash your hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds to help continue to curtail the spread of the virus.
