Counting COVID Cases: Seven new positives on July 4, another 2,800+ statewide increase

After a record day locally, Polk County’s tally of new COVID-19 cases increased by another seven for the July 4 holiday.

The latest report from the Georgia Department of Public Health put the new local total of cases at 231 for the day, but saw no movement in the 16 hospitalizations and single death since tracking began in late February.

Statewide, there are now 93,319 total positives reported, a new increase in the past 24 hours of 2,826 positives for the virus in Georgia.

The number of hospitalizations went up by 90 new patients to sit at 11,743 in total, and some 12 new intensive care patients, bringing the total needing ICU care to 2,425.

Just a single death was reported in the past 24 hours, brining the total to 2,857 people who have died since late February.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported 52,492 new positives in Americans on the July 4 holiday, now bringing the total to 2,784,452 people who have tested positive. The nationwide death till increased today by 749 to 129,393 since tracking began.

Around the area, totals increased again in the past 24 hours in positive cases. Bartow County had 765 cases in total, with 160 hospitalizations and 42 deaths. Their cases rose by 19 new positives and one new hospitalization in the past day.

In Paulding, there’s 12 new virus cases reported to bring the total to 671, with a new hospitalization to bring the tally to 95, and no change in the number of deaths at 16.

Floyd County’s tally stood at 586 cases, adding four in the past day with no change in the 56 hospitalizations and 15 deaths. Southward in Haralson, the tally remained at 83, with 16 people hospitalized and five deaths.
