Counting COVID Cases: Seven new cases in Polk brings Wednesday tally up to 174

Polk County’s COVID-19 positives continue a trend of increase on the week, and are on track to exceed 200 by the end of June based on recent increases.

The figure stood at 174 – a jump of seven cases from the number released from the Georgia Department of Public Health on June 16 at 167 – as the number of hospitalizations stood at 15 overall, and Polk still had just one death from the virus. Earlier in the week, local cases stood at 165 after an increase of just one from past weekend figures.

Georgia’s positive tally since tracking began at the end of February stood at 60,030 as of the midweek report, out of 763,149 total tests administered. The state report put the number of hospitalizations overall at 9,543 and the number of people who have needed intensive care treatment at 2,084.

Sadly, the number of Georgians who have died from COVID-19 now stands at 2,575.

Around the region, the numbers posted for the June 17 report stood as follows:

  • Bartow County had 570 total cases of COVID-19, and out of that 148 people have needed hospital treatment and 39 people have died.
  • Paudling posted a figure of 425 positives as of June 17, and out of that 82 people have been hospitalized and 13 deaths have been reported.
  • Floyd County reported 380 cases of the virus, and out of that 47 people have required hospitalization and 15 have died.
  • Southward in Haralson County, the tally stood at 61 positives for the virus, with 16 people hospitalized and four deaths reported.

Nationwide, COVID-19 positives stood at 2,132,321 positives, and 116,862 deaths according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s tracking.
