
Polk County’s number of COVID-19 cases hit 200 as the week came to a close, adding three new positives for the day as the statewide tally went past 72,000 people who have contracted the virus.
Locally, that brings the number of new cases to 22 for the week, though the number of hospitalizations has remained flat at 15, and there still remains just one death from COVID-19 in the daily statistics provided by the Georgia Department of Public Health.
Georgia’s total number of COVID-19 cases hit 72,995, an increase in the past two days since the last report of 3,146. The number of hospitalizations is now reported at 10,605, and the number of intensive care admissions at 2,244.
Sadly, some 2,770 people have died in the state of Georgia as of June 26 due to COVID-19.
Regionally, the virus has not slowed down. Some 645 people in total have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Bartow County as of Friday, and 154 people have been hospitalized. Their deaths now stood at 41. In Paulding County, the number now stands at 538 positives for the virus, with 90 people hospitalized and 15 deaths.
In Floyd County, the virus has infected 487 people, sent 54 people to the hospital and caused the death of 15 people. Haralson County has 68 cases confirmed as of Friday, with five people now dead and 16 people who have been treated in the hospital since late February.
Nationally, some 2,414,870 people have COVID-19, an increase of 40,588 new cases in the past 24 hours alone. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention put the death toll at 124,325 from the virus in the United States, an increase since Thursday of 2,516 new deaths.
