The weekend numbers went way down for Polk County’s number of new cases, while the number of tests reported increased – as well as two additional hospital patients reported by the Georgia Department of Public Health.
Just 10 cases overall were reported from Saturday through this afternoon’s update from the DPH, increasing the total to 1,517 positives overall since tracking began in early March.
Here’s a breakdown of the numbers locally over the past three days:
- On Saturday, seven new positives were reported alongside two new hospital patients being treated at area medical centers for COVID-19 symptoms. That figure included some 137 new test results and the overall percentage of positives remained flat at 13.4%, but the two-week average went from 7 to 6.8%
- Sunday’s number of new positives dropped to 2, with no new hospital patients reported locally. The overall percentage of positives was down to 13.2%, and the number of tests was at 101 reported by the state. The two-week average was down five-tenths of a percentage point to 6.3% as well on the day, the fourth day of a decrease.
- The DPH on Monday had only one reported new positive for the virus on the day, with the second day in a row without a new hospital patient and the fifth day without a new death. The overall rate was at 13.1%, and the two-week moving average was down to 5.5%.
Statewide, cases remain on the rise, though numbers of new positive day-to-day are trending downward as well. Compared to the 1,484 case reported on Saturday, the 806 reported today is a big decrease.
Currently, there are 323,714 positive overall and with a weekend decrease the positive rate overall is right at 10%, out of more than 3.3 million tests conducted statewide since tracking began in late February.
Some 28,987 people have now been hospitalized after slight weekend increases as well, and heading into the first full week of October.
Georgia’s number of deaths went down over the weekend as well, from the mid 40 per day to right around 30 each day of the weekend which brings the overall figure to 7,192 overall.
The biggest decrease of all is in the number of new intensive care patients. That number only went up by 16 overall between Saturday and Monday’s report.
Nationwide, the number of new positives reported by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention stood at 7,396,730, a weekend increase of 136,265 over the past three day confirmed by the Atlanta-based agency as of Sunday, October 4. That figure included the 209,199 confirmed deaths reported since tracking began earlier in the year nationwide as of October 4.
