The numbers remained flat in Polk County through the day, but statewide the figures are closing in on the 36,000 mark as COVID-19 continues to spread in Georgia and around the globe.
Polk County’s tally stood at 69, with 11 hospitalizations and no deaths yet reported according to the Georgia Department of Public Health. That remains the case as counties surrounding have reported at least a single death from the virus in past days and weeks.
Georgia’s total number of deaths stood at 1,527 as of this afternoon, May 14. That was out of 35,858 cases all tallied in the state, out of the 285,881 tests administered for the virus since tracking began in late February.
As of the midday update, the total number of hospitalizations in the state sat at 6,345 people, and 1,513 people needed treatment in the ICU for the virus.
Regional figures were reported as follows:
- Bartow County saw their case figure grow to 379 people who have the virus, with 128 people who required hospitalization and 35 deaths.
- Paudling County reported 235 people with COVID-19, with 56 hospitalizations and 11 deaths.
- In Floyd County to the north, their number of positive tests stood at 165, with 41 people hospitalized and 12 deaths from the virus.
- Haralson County saw an increase to 34 people with COVID-19, but remained at eight hospitalizations and two deaths.
As of midweek, U.S. case figures stood at 1,364,061 people with COVID-19 (that was as of May 13, since the Center for Disease Control and Prevention at the time of this writing didn’t yet post an updated tally for today.)
The number of deaths from the virus across the nation was 82,246 people.
