Counting COVID Cases: No increase for Polk on Saturday, statewide tally surpasses 63,000

Polk County can consider itself lucky for at least a day. There was no increase in the number of cases locally in the Georgia Department of Public Health’s daily report.

The local tally remained at 178 for the past 24 hours, and the number of hospitalizations remained at 15, as well as the deaths at just one.

Statewide, the numbers increased by another 1,800 to bring the total to 63,809 cases of COVID-19 in Georgia. The total number of tests administered in the state according to DPH stood at 826,711.

Since late February, COVID-19 has required 9,837 hospitalizations, 2,140 ICU admissions and been the cause of 2,642 deaths statewide.

Around the region, Bartow County figures stood at 587 cases, with 150 people hospitalized and 39 people who have died from the virus. Paulding County posted a total of 460 cases, with 86 residents who have required hospitalization and 14 deaths from COVID-19 as of June 20.

In Floyd, the latest tally of positives stood at 404 people, and the virus was the cause of 15 deaths 49 hospitalizations. Haralson County’s tally only increased by one test for the day, which now stood at 63 total positive with 16 people hospitalized, and four deaths.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention put the national tally at 2,215,618 positives as of June 20, and the virus was the cause of 119,055 deaths.
