Counting COVID Cases: New positives up by 18, another hospital patient admitted over the past day from Polk County

Another increase in positives was reported by the Georgia Department of Public Health over the past 24 hours, and another person has been admitted to the hospital per the latest report from the agency tracking COVID-19 across the state.

Polk County’s overall tally went up by 18 on the day, bringing the overall tally to 1,254 positives for the virus since tracking began. With the increase of a new hospital patient admitted to an area medical center in the past 24 hours, Polk County’s overall number of patients treated for the virus sits at 81.

The agency reported no new deaths locally from the virus, which remained at 15 since the first was reported in May, and the most recent on August 27.

The local positive rate over the past two weeks and overall dropped some in the latest report as well, now down to 13.3% over the past two weeks of testing, and 14.6% overall.



Statewide, the numbers increased again by more than 2,000 new positives (specifically 2,733,) to bring the overall total to 277,288 since tracking began in late February for the virus. Georgia’s total number of tests sat at more than 2.6 million tests administered overall. That’s rounded out currently to a 10.5% positive rate.

Georgia’s number of hospital patients went back up again as well, landing at 234 in the past 24 hours and pushing the overall tally to 25,259 who have been treated in a medical center around the state for COVID-19. Out of the total figure, some 4,628 patients have needed additional help in the Intensive Care Unit across Georgia.

COVID-19 continues to claim lives directly or because the symptoms it causes exacerbates other conditions in people that cause their untimely deaths. In the past day, another 75 people perished due to the virus, bringing the overall total to 5,868.

The number of deaths nationally went up by another 1,009 people per the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, bringing the overall total from Tuesday to Wednesday confirmed by the agency to 185,092. The number of people overall who have contracted the virus stood at 6,087,408 from day-to-day between September 1 and 2, an increase of another 39,711 positives for the virus.
