The Georgia Department of Public Health put the total number of new COVID-19 positives in Polk County at 16 on the day, marking another increase following a decrease in cases that has been the pattern since July based on daily figures reported by the state health agency.
Four new hospital patients were admitted on the day, bringing that total to 92 overall since tracking began and the first case of COVID-19 was found in a local resident.
The overall number of cases now sits at 1,364, and the overall percentage of positives stood at 14.1% so far of the total number of tests administered. After a decrease in new cases over the past two weeks, that percentage went up two-tenths of a point to 8.6%, only a minor statistical bump considering where that number stood previously.
Polk County’s death toll from the virus remained at 17, the 12th day in a row that it has remain unchanged per the Department of Health’s data.
Statewide, the number of deaths has unfortunately bounced up and down. In the past weeks the number has been up to 60 (Sept. 6 and Sept. 9), but has also dipped as low as seven for the entire state (Sept. 7). The past three days, the number has gone from 20, to 48, 20 today’s tally of 24. Overall, the state has recorded 6,419 who have died due to COVID-19 or the symptoms of the virus worsening other illnesses and ailments in victims.
Georgia’s number of overall cases stood at 299,056 with an increase in the total confirmed figure of 2,265 over the past 24 hours.
Out of the overall figure, some 26,884 have needed medical care in the hospital. 4,912 have needed ICU care. That’s 219 new patients admitted in the past day.
Nationally, 6,571,867 cases have been reported to the CDC as of Tuesday, September 15. 195,053 deaths have been reported.
