Counting COVID Cases: New hospitalization reported, three more cases added to totals in Polk County

The latest COVID-19 numbers for Polk County from June 13 to present. The green represents the total number of cases, and blue the number of new daily cases.

The number of cases locally jumped by three and a new hospitalization was added to the tally in the past 24 hour, according to the latest figures from the Georgia Department of Public Health to start the month of July.

Polk County’s total number of cases increased to 208, after the state posted 205 cases on Tuesday. The number of hospitalizations increased by one to 17, and the number of deaths remained at two after the state reported yesterday’s latest victim of the virus. There remains only three cases reported in local nursing homes, one each in Cedar Valley Nursing and Rehab, Cedar Springs Health and Rehab and Rockmart Health.

Statewide, the case tally increased to 84,237 confirmed cases in total of the virus since reporting began in February. The number of people who have been hospitalized around the state increased to 11,275, and the ICU admissions reached 2,357 in total as of Wednesday, July 1. Georgia’s death toll increased to 2,827 people in the past 24 hours as well.

Around the area, COVID-19 figures stood at 714 in Bartow County, with 156 people who have required hospitalization and 42 deaths; Paulding posted 627 cases, with 92 people who have been treated in the hospital and 15 deaths. Floyd County’s tally now stood at 539 cases, with 55 people hospitalized and 15 deaths reported.

In Haralson County, the figure now stood at 76 cases, remaining at 16 people hospitalized and five deaths.

Some 2,624,873 cases have been reported in the United States since tracking began on the virus, and has been the cause of 127,299 U.S. Citizens according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s July 1 update.
