The Georgia Department of Public Health has reported 34 new positives over the past three days, and a new death this afternoon was added to figures to bring the overall total for the month to four.
According to the DPH records, a 76-year-old white male with no comorbidity factors was the latest to fall victim to COVID-19 from Polk County. His marks the 37th death from the virus.
Records indicated there was still a probable death listed, but provided no further details about it.

The number of cases rose from Thursday afternoon’s report to this afternoon’s report by 34 new positives, bringing the total to 2,167. With a overall positive rate at 12.6%, that brings the total number of tests to 17,336 conducted since tracking began earlier in the year in March.
One figure that remained the same was the 197 hospitalizations that have been reported by DPH.
Statewide, new positives on the day were at 4,336, bringing the overall total to 476,044 positives for COVID-19. That included 66,794 antigen positives cases as well.
Georgia’s number of hospital patients on the day went up by another 87, bringing the total to 37,637. Out of that figure, some 6,854 people have needed intensive care treatment for the virus.
Polk County’s death was the only confirmed added to the state’s database on the day, which brought the total to 9,205 Georgians who have perished from the virus since tracking began earlier in the year.
Nationwide, that number was much higher. 2,283 new deaths have been reported across the country in the latest figures released by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, bringing the U.S. death toll to 296,818 people since tracking began.
Overall, 15.9 million people and climbing have tested positive across the country for COVID-19, an additional 213,305 new cases added to the tally in today’s update from the Atlanta-based agency.
