
The Georgia Department of Public Health posted nine new cases of COVID-19 locally, with more than 2,800 cases added to the statewide tally as transmission in recent days continues to increase.
Locally, the total increased to 283 positives for the virus, and marking a steep decrease in the number of new cases compared to Tuesday and Wednesday increases of 21 and 20 respectively.
All told over the past three days, Polk County’s total increased by 50 new cases. In the past seven days since July 2, that increase has been by 75 new cases of COVID-19.
It has marked the largest tally of new cases since tracking began locally.
Statewide, as of today’s report (July 9) there are 106,727 positives for the virus since tracking began. The total increase over the past 24 hours stood at 2,837 new cases, with 106 new patients in the hospital and eight new deaths from the virus. All totaled, that is 12,606 hospitalizations, 2,930 deaths and 2,519 ICU admissions.
Numbers locally remained at one death and 17 hospitalizations. Around Polk County’s borders, positives continue to increase but hospitalizations and deaths have remained slow to grow. Bartow County reported 859 cases, 163 people hospitalized and 42 deaths, a number that has remained stable for several days.
Like the counties around the Metro Atlanta or on the Interstate, Paulding reported an increase to 778 cases in total as of today, with 16 deaths and 96 people hospitalized.
Floyd County reported 670 cases of COVID-19 as of July 9, with 15 deaths and 59 hospitalizations. Haralson reported 101 cases in total, with five deaths and 17 patients requiring hospital care.
Nationwide, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported 64,771 new cases of the virus, bringing the U.S. total to 3,047,671. The number of deaths in 24 hours increased by 991 to 132,056.
