A 13-day streak of single-digit increases in cases was broken with 10 new positives on the books as the Georgia Department of Public Health continues to track COVID-19 on a daily basis.
Polk County’s overall total now sits at 1,539 positives since the first case was reported locally, that out of 11,838 test results (based on the math, not on the DPH’s actual data) that have been sent back to the state. It was an increase of just 77 new test results on the day.
However, expect some additional test results to start coming back with a pop-up COVID-19 testing site now in front of Triangle in Rockmart, according to reader and nurse Janet Ross who captured this pair of photos in her travels.
Polk County’s main COVID-19 testing site remains open only on Tuesdays and one Saturday a month and run by health officials as part of a three-county area that includes Paulding and Haralson counties. That is located at the former home of the Georgia Department of Labor in Cedartown on North Park Boulevard off the Cedartown bypass and around the corner from Cedartown Middle School.
Even with the new double-digit increase – and not as much of one as in previous months – it kept Polk County at a 13% rate heading into the weekend for the third day in a row, and only boosted the two-week average back up to 6.5%.
Polk County’s number of hospital patients admitted for treatment remained flat again at 111, and the number of deaths also stayed the same at 21.
Statewide numbers seem to be back on the rise after new positive cases after a weekend where numbers of new daily COVID-19 infections reported had dropped down to the 800-900 range, but have since jumped back up.
Georgia’s total number of new cases increased by 1,695 on the day, bringing the overall total to 329,032 positives since tracking began in late February. Even with the jump over the past three days, the number of positives compared to the total testing conducted stayed at 9.9% for the second day. Overall, some 3.4+ million test results have been submitted back to the state since late February.
Two additional daily indicators also went up on the day. Georgia’s number of hospital patients were up by 124 on the day compared to the 78 reported on Thursday. Total patients numbers who have been treated for COVID-19 in medical centers across the state sit at 29,510.
Out of that figure, 5,482 people have needed treatment in intensive care, up another 29 on the day.
Sadly, another 56 people died from Thursday to Friday, an increase to 7,348 on the day.
Nationally, numbers also increased as the Center for Disease Control confirmed new positives from Wednesdays to Thursday.
The total number of COVID-19 cases now sits at 7,583,200 across the country, up by 54,887 from the midweek figure confirmed by the Atlanta-based agency.
As of late Thursday, some 212,111 people have died across the United States from COVID-19 or related factors that contributed to an individual’s death. That’s an increase of 979 from day to day.
