Counting COVID Cases: Additional cases brings the local number to 69

An evening update increased Polk County’s case total, and another hospitalization has been reported due to the continued COVID-19 pandemic.

The number of cases sits at 69 in Polk County after a May 12 evening increase which also saw the number of hospitalizations rise to 11 locally, and those number remained the same through the morning hours of May 13.

Polk County’s tally does not include any deaths as of yet, according to the numbers provided three times a day by the Georgia Department of Public Health.

Statewide, figures are still on the rise. Georgia as a whole reported 35,245 people who have COVID-19 out of the 273,904 total tests administered. Out of that, some 6,228 people have been hospitalized due to the virus, and 1,480 people have required more serious medical care in ICU’s.

The death toll stood at 1,493 from the virus as of the midday report on May 13.

Around the area, the figures were as follows on May 13:

Bartow County reported 368 cases of COVID-19, with 127 people who have been hospitalized and 34 deaths.

Paulding County stood at 231 cases of the virus, that required 56 people to be hospitalized and was the cause of 10 deaths.

Floyd County had 160 cases as of the midday report, with 41 people who needed hospital treatment for COVID-19 and 12 deaths.

Haralson County’s tally was at 33 cases, with eight people hospitalized and two deaths.

Figures available from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention put the death toll as of May 12 at 80,280 people across the country, and 1,342,594 positive cases of the virus.
