The number of COVID-19 cases continues to grow by the day in Polk County, with another 12 positives added to the tally and a hospital patient reported according to the Georgia Department of Public Health’s August 15 update.
Another day of double-digit increases brings the total of positives since tracking began to 939, with 44 people hospitalized overall. There remained 11 deaths so far from the virus, now 10 days since the last time a person was reported to have perished from the virus.
Statewide, Georgia’s number of positives increased by another 3,372 new cases, bringing the overall figure to 235,168 people who have been tested and found with the virus since tracking began in February. The DPH reported another 210 people were hospitalized, bringing that overall total to 22,028 and the number of ICU patients since tracking began increase to 4,042.
Sadly, another 96 people died from the virus today to bring the total 4,669 since winter.
As of Saturday, 1,988,066 tests were conducted overall, bringing the percentage of positives to 10.7%.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention put the total of positives at 5,285,546, an increase of 56,729 new cases confirmed since August 14.
The agency reported 1,229 new deaths, bringing the nationwide total to 167,546 people who have perished in the United States since tracking began.
