Counting COVID Cases: 30 new positives, three new hospital patients in Thursday update

Another 30 positives pushed Polk County’s total past 600 in the latest report from the Georgia Department of Public Health, and another three new patients have been admitted to the hospital as COVID-19 continues to grow steadily through the month of July.

The number of new positives brought the overall tally to 614 since tracking began and the first reported positive in mid-March was noted. Polk County’s three new hospital patients put that figure at 29, which has grown by 13 patients since the beginning of the month. No new deaths were reported locally in today’s report, and that figure remained at six after a new increase was noted on Wednesday.

Statewide, the increase in new cases and hospital patients remained the trend as July is coming to a close. The DPH reported that 4,045 new positives for COVID-19 were added in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number since tracking began to 182,286. That is out of more than 1.5 million tests administered since late February.

The DPH reported that new hospital cases went up by another 339 to jump to 18,303 overall, with 3,354 of those in total since tracking began as intensive care patients. That figure increased by another 53 in the past 24 hours.

Georgia’s death toll from the virus increased by another 30 in the past day as well, increasing to 3,671 who have died from the virus.

On the national level, the figures per the Center for Disease Control and Prevention remained grim. A new milestone was officially reported today – though tallied yesterday from other sources – as the number of deaths reached 150,283, an increase in the July 30 report from the CDC of 1,417 in the past day.

The total number of cases nationwide now sits at 4,405,932 who have tested positive since tracking began, an increase of 65,935 in the past 24 hours.
