Counting COVID Cases: 27 new positives to start off August, Georgia tally up to 190,000+ in total

The number of new positives surpassed another milestone to start August in surpassing 190,000 total positives for COVID-19, and new cases were added to the local tally as well in the daily update from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

Polk County’s total cases went up by another 27 positives in the Saturday update to start the month of August after a July that saw record increases. The total now sits at 664 total positives, with the number of hospital cases remaining at 31 and the number of deaths at six.

Georgia’s total went up to 190,012 cases since tracking began in late February, an increase in the past day of 3,709 new positives statewide. The number of new hospital cases went up by another 306 new patient to bring the total to 18,995 people treated since tracking began.

Sadly, another 74 people died due to the virus in the past day, bringing the total so far to 3,825 deaths.

The number of deaths across the country as of July 31 stood at 152,870, an increase of 1,371 death according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Nationwide cases went up as of July 31 by another 68,605 cases to 4,542,579 positives.

July proved to be a month of growth for COVID-19, with Polk County adding 429 new cases over the 31 days, with five deaths and 14 hospital cases in that time.

Statewide, some 105,775 new positives were added in the past month, and 998 deaths were reported to be caused by COVID-19. The number of new hospital cases went up by 7,720 patients over the past month as well, and included 1,118 new intensive care admissions.

Nationwide, the cases in total went up by 1,917,706 positives, and the number of deaths increased by 25,571 in that time.
