Counting COVID Cases: 18 new cases, new hospitalization reported locally in DPH daily update

Polk County’s COVID-19 totals added another hospitalization to the tally, bringing the total to 21 in the past days as numbers increased again for positives as well, according to the latest from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

Local totals since tracking began now sit at 457 positives for COVID-19. Polk County remained at three deaths on the day, having increased on Wednesday, the second death reported in five days.

The county is not alone in increases back upward after some dips. The statewide tally increased by another 4,286 new cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the overall tally to 156,588. There are another 431 new hospitalizations in the past day as well, and brings the total figure of patients treated for COVID-19 in Georgia medical centers to 16,353. The number of intensive care admissions now reached 3,034, a rise of another 67 new patients needing that level of medical attention.

State reports also included a new 25 deaths from the virus, which brought the overall total to 3,360 since the end of February.

Around the area, new cases continue to climb. Bartow County added a new 38 positives on the day to reach 1,252 cases overall, but remained flat over the past day in new deaths and hospitalizations. In Paulding, the case totals reached 1,146 with a new 36 positives reported in the past 24 hours but also saw now increase in hospitalizations (today reported at 116, might have been a typo yesterday someone correct me if they find out) or deaths.

Floyd County now has 942 total cases, with 37 additional positives in the past day added on and added a hospitalization to bring the figure to 62. They still had 15 deaths in today’s report.

In Haralson, the case number stood at 146. They added just four new positives, and stood at 18 hospitalizations and six deaths.

Nationwide, COVID-19 positives went up by 70,106 according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, pushing closer to 4 million confirmed positives for the virus at 3,952,273. Sadly, 142,755 have now died from the virus, an increase today of 1,078 people.
