Friendship Baptist Church leadership in Cedartown are hoping to get people involved in a new mentoring program being put together, and an upcoming meeting is hoped to bring stakeholders from all corners of the community to get involved.
Dr. Eric Robertson, the new pastor at Friendship Baptist, is starting up the iFOCUS School-Community Mentoring Program in Polk as a way to bring youth together with those who can make a positive impact on their lives in a variety of ways.
The first meeting for the mentorship program is set for Tuesday, April 23 at 10 a.m. at One Door Polk in Cedartown. The program was created by the iFocus Consulting Firm.
“Our program aims to assist students in shaping their character, avoiding pitfalls, setting goals, excelling in education, building meaningful relationships, and having fun on their learning journey,” Robertson wrote in a letter sent to Polk Today. “The overarching objective of this program is to foster a sense of connection among at-risk students within our school-community, thereby reducing dropout rates and mitigating negative student outcomes.”
Dr. Roberston is hoping to bring together those who are willing to serve as mentors or take part in the program to One Door Polk on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at 424 N. Main St., Cedartown.
A kickoff event is scheduled on May 9 at 5 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club in Cedartown as well, with a 2024-25 School Year Summer Camp to also follow.
