Kris Kringle is getting ready for his annual ride around the world on Christmas Eve, but first he has some stops to make in visits here in Polk County.

Including the 2023 Cedartown Christmas Parade coming up this Thursday.

As of last week, the city had gotten in some 40 applications ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday for this year’s parade down Main Street from Marietta through to the intersection with Queen Street. The deadline to participate is Monday, November 27 at 5 p.m.

The parade on Thursday, November 30 will kick off at 6 p.m.

Prizes for participants in this year’s parade content for the “Gingerbread Lane” theme will award $1,000 cash to the Christmas Star of the parade for overall creativity, appearance and originality. A Magic Award for the best entry featuring children 18 and under comes with a $500 cash prize.

The Christmas Sparkle Award gives a $300 prize to the entry using the most lights/effects/sparkle.

Then there’s there Christmas Sleigh Award this year, offering up a prize of $200 for the best classic car or vehicle entry.

Christmas decorations are up in downtown Cedartown ahead of Thursday’s parade.

The city has already decked the halls of downtown with festive lights, garlands, banners and displays that span the length of Main Street from the railroad tracks on the south to the courthouse on the north end.

Light wraps around the trees are themed for the holiday as well.
