Cedartown man found with drugs in March has bond set at $650,000

Still facing federal charges in South Carolina, Terry Pollard Jr. will be turned over to U.S. Marshals if released

A Cedartown man will have to come up with a lot of cash or property in order to get out, and even then he’d still face a trip to South Carolina in federal custody if he were to get out.

Terry Tyrone Pollard Jr., 25, of 624 E. Gibson St., Cedartown, was arrested back in March when he was found in his grey Dodge Charger by police who had stopped to get gas with a large amount of marijuana, ecstasy, pills, and cash in his vehicle.

He has remained in the Polk County Jail since, and on Tuesday, July 13, in a bond hearing through his attorney sought to get out of jail with a $60,000 bond.

According to information forwarded from a release by Chief Assistant District Attorney Jaeson Smith, Tallapoosa Superior Court Judge Mark Murphy felt that amount wasn’t appropriate considering the charges and set a $650,000 bond instead.

Pollard locally faces charges of with misdemeanors for obstruction of law enforcement officers and possession of marijuana less than an ounce, and felonies that included two counts of possession of marijuana (purchase, possession, manufacture, distribution or sale) along with possession of a schedule I controlled substance, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, two counts of possession with intent for schedule I or schedule II controlled substance and trafficking in cocaine, illegal drugs, marijuana or methamphetamine.

He faces additional trouble even if he gets out of the Polk County Jail.

Pollard was also recently indicted in the Northern District of South Carolina for Armed Robbery and Grand Larceny stemming from the robbery of an armored truck in the amount of $1.2M.

In the release, Assistant District Attorney Crystal Burkhalter explained that “the District Attorney’s Office intends to present the case to the Grand Jury for indictment once the GBI Crime Lab completes evidence testing.”

If released from the Polk County Jail, Pollard will be remanded into the custody of the U.S. Marshalls for extradition to South Carolina to stand trial on the federal charges.

SMH, so a drug offender gets a $650,000 bond but a murderer only has $500,000 bond. I’m just thinking.
