Some good news for a Cedartown Commission candidate who had to requalify in a special election for her seat this November: she’ll be doing so without opposition.
Commissioner Jessica Payton qualified for a second time this campaign season on Wednesday for a special election to retain her seat. All this came about after her check failed to clear for the regular election qualifying, and without further candidates in the race at the time qualifying was forced to re-open.
She’ll now head to November without opposition following the close of the qualifying period at noon today without anyone else getting into the race.
This will likely mean that no further voting is required for Cedartown this year other than the E-SPLOST referendum since Commissioners Matt Foster and Sam Branch qualified without any opposition back in August.
The upcoming November city elections will see a contested race in Rockmart, and a contested race in Aragon to fill city council seats.
EDIT: The names of the Commissioners will appear on the ballot in November, but all are running unopposed for the Nov. 2 election.
