Cedartown Commission is back for August meeting on Monday evening

After a work session where discussions ranged from the rules for citizens who want to own chickens to the millage rate, the Cedartown City Commission is back in session on Monday evening to decide on just a few items for the night.

No delegations are planned for the Monday meeting that begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall, but a public hearing will lead the way before Commission Chair Matt Foster gavels in the August regular session.

Brandy Jones is seeking permission – with a vote later in new business – to open a dog grooming salon at 307 Main St., Cedartown in a building zoned C-1. The public hearing gives people for or against the proposal the chance to address the commission with comments should they desire to before the board makes a decision on the request under new business.

Along with that item, the Commission is being asked to determine a liquor package license for Imran Momin at 1668 Rome Highway (Petro Plaza, LLC), a request to consider rules of decorum, and a request to consider a resolution allowing the city to take CARES Act funding to help offset the costs incurred due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Commissioners will conclude the meeting with a final item on a resolution over un-collectible property taxes and their comments before the public session wraps up. If needed, they will vote to go into executive session before adjourning.

The Cedartown Commission meets at city hall at 201 East Ave., Cedartown. Social distancing guidelines during meetings are being adhered to. Please wear a mask while in city hall to conduct business with officials and during the Monday evening session.

During the previous work session, Commissioners reviewed new rules being considered as an amendment to the livestock ordinance allowing laying hens to be raised on property with more than an acre, and not within 35 feet of another person’s residence, among other restrictions. Those rules are still under consideration at this time. Discussions over the millage rate – which must be set before the month’s end – along with the proposed rules of decorum formalized and up for vote tonight were also had by the board.

Of note, Bishop Joseph Sewell of Lake Creek Anointed Ministries will provide the invocation for the evening’s meeting.
