Another spot for oil changes in Rockmart will open later this year, and housing in Cedartown is on the rise as projects across Polk County are being tackled day by day.
Here’s a quick update on where some projects underway stand in Polk County (as of March 5):
Townhomes on South Main on the rise

A new townhome community that broke ground at the beginning of the year will have all the units completed in the coming months as roofs were going on this week, and the rest of the buildings are enclosed.
The project being completed by local contractor Greg Brown is bringing a dozen townhomes for sale to the South Main Street lot, with an entryway coming into and out of the new micro neighborhood via Brewster Street.
Culver’s still making progress

The scaffolding for the exterior work on Culvers was still hanging around the building at midweek, but don’t expect that to last much longer as work pushes ahead on the new restaurant coming to Rockmart in 2025.
The Wisconsin-based chain known for its burgers and frozen custard have been quietly at work on the location through the end of 2024, and should be done before the end of the spring for opening.

Valvoline basement nearing completion

Basement work at the future home of Valvoline that will give technicians to the undercarriages of vehicles is nearing completion, meaning a good portion of the site work for the oil and lube business is almost done.

There’s still some left to finish, but look for the building to finish and be open by mid summer so long as weather doesn’t hinder process – and further make a red clay muddy mess.
Valvoline will be the latest auto-related business to open in the Nathan Dean Parkway corridor. Just next door is a car wash, Mavis Tire is across the street and another car wash is up the hill in front of Walmart.
Work still underway clearing for houses

Wet weather has caused some issues with site work for new homes on Branch Street in Cedartown, but a stretch of sunshine should allow for some progress for builders to get to utilities in the coming weeks.
Contractors David Autrey and Tim Perkins are planning to put more than a dozen homes on the site on more than nine acres of land. They’ve got an additional eye on a small group of another dozen homes on land on Prior Station Road they’re seeking to annex into the City of Cedartown’s limits as a PD-1 development.
The city will hold a public hearing on the annexation on Monday, March 10 starting at 6 p.m. at city hall in the commission meeting room. The commission will then get to vote on it during the regular session.
Alongside the vote for annexation is also a moratorium on the table against Build-to-Rent housing in the city limits.
