Mrs. Brenda Sue Noland Woods

Mrs. Brenda Sue Noland Woods, age 72, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Floyd Medical Center. Brenda, the third of four children, was born in Rockmart, GA, on April 11, 1951, to the late Robert Frank and Pauline Frances Austin Noland.

On May 29, 1970, in a small ceremony at the courthouse, she married Bobby Derrell Woods in a dress that she had carefully sewn. Brenda was a fine seamstress and was also able to crochet, knit, and cross-stitch. Bobby and Brenda were married over 50 years at the time of Bobby’s passing in 2021.

Brenda began married life as a homemaker and went on to have three sons who kept her on her toes. She became a talented cake decorator and enjoyed creating unique cakes for her sons’ birthday celebrations. Part of her technique of keeping the boys out of mischief was teaching them to cross-stitch, which explains why there were so many pieces completed between 1972 and 1982. Their home was the center of many neighborhood basketball games, bike rides, and countless adventures.

In January of 1984, Brenda began working outside the home for the US Postal Service at the Rockmart Post Office as a mail carrier. Her routes took her all around Polk County, and at the time of her retirement in May of 2013, she was delivering mail on Vinson Mountain. Over her 29 years of service, Brenda enjoyed getting to know and hear stories from the people along her route.

She loved receiving pies, loaves of bread, cookies, or other treats individuals shared with her. These surprises always made for a great day.  Brenda took pride in delivering the mail accurately and quickly, maybe some days a bit too quickly, as Bobby kept a few extra mailbox posts and many extra car parts, especially brake pads, on hand, just in case.

In September of 2005, Brenda gained her favorite title of all, Grandmother. She adored and was so proud of her five grandchildren. She especially loved the fact that she had a granddaughter.

She loved spoiling all of them, especially on holidays. She always made sure she had some type of gift or goodie every time she saw them. She liked to make gift opening an adventure, many times hiding items in the most unexpected places. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports and hearing about their latest activities.

Brenda enjoyed traveling and finding unusual and quaint places to explore on her trips. She treasured her friendship with the “Hat Ladies,” enjoying themed teas and luncheons. Planning and participating in their wonderful adventures were a highlight for her. Most recently, she had developed a love for trivia night and truly looked forward to meeting with the gang on Tuesday nights.

Having committed her life to Christ early in life, Brenda attended First Baptist Church of Rockmart for many years and most recently attended First Methodist Church of Rockmart.

Brenda was a loving wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who enjoyed a laugh and performed countless acts of thoughtfulness and service to others. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bobby Derrell, brother Duane Noland, sister Katherine “Kathy” Noland, and her beloved son Beau Woods.

She is survived by two sons, Brent Woods and his wife Mary Beth of Plains, KS, and Brandon Woods and his wife Nancy of Rockmart, GA along with her grandchildren Adeline Woods, Emmett Woods, Audy Woods, Cason Woods and Ethan Woods, her brother Jack Noland, sister-in-law Cathy Noland, and several nieces and nephews.
