Update:

Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd – who has been following the situation happening in Taylorsville – reported that a fire that started around 8 p.m. has been extinguished.

He said there had not yet been any report of further issues. The structure was a barn on the property of Richard Harris on Harris Road in Taylorsville, which was used to store hay and chemicals used to spray crops, along with diesel fuel.

A Hazmat team was called out to help extinguish the fire due to the chemicals inside of the structure.



Polk County Public Safety Director Randy Lacey was not immediately available for further comment as he was still out on the scene this evening.

A large structure fire has been reported in Taylorsville on Harris Road, involving diesel fuel according to Polk County Public Safety Director Randy Lacey.

Multiple Polk County Fire Stations are being called to the scene along with additional surrounding units to help. Hazmat units have also been deployed. Lacey said he had just arrived on the scene, and additional information about the fire will follow.

Those traveling around the area of Harris Road in Taylorsville should avoid using the road if at all possible.

Use Hills Creek Road to detour around the area of Harris Road.
