The race to 270 electoral college votes came to an end this afternoon – at least based on several national news outlets coverage of the election results, including Fox News – that former Vice President Joe Biden will take over the executive branch of the government coming in January. He’ll be the 46th President of the United States, and is the first challenger to defeat an incumbent since the presidency of George H.W. Bush in 1992.
Nevada and Pennsylvania’s results were called today by, well, just about everyone even as ballot tallies continue in other states around the country.
President Trump has already disputed the results, per this coverage by The New York Times. (And other sources.)
From CNN:
In a written statement after networks called the race, Biden, who is expected to address the American people later Saturday, said he was “honored and humbled” by the trust the American people have placed in him.
“In the face of unprecedented obstacles, a record number of Americans voted. Proving once again, that democracy beats deep in the heart of America,” Biden said. “With the campaign over, it’s time to put the anger and the harsh rhetoric behind us and come together as a nation.”
“We are the United States of America. And there’s nothing we can’t do, if we do it together.”
