“Battle of the Badges” Blood Drive coming up at Polk County EMA on Oct. 23

The public is being encouraged to come give a pint of blood and take part in the “Battle of the Badges” call for help next Friday.

Local public safety officials are partnering with the American Red Cross for this blood drive on October 23 from 3 to 8 p.m. being held at the Polk County Emergency Management Agency building in the training room, in conjunction with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Those interested in participating can schedule an appointment ahead of time at redcrossblood.org and enter PCSO in the sponsor code, or contact the Sheriff’s Office at 770-749-2900 for more details.

Chief Deputy Jonathan Blackmon reported the Sheriff’s Office is hosting the drive in order to help the American Red Cross with increased demand for blood donations of all kinds.

“There is a huge need since the pandemic,” he said.

Participating donors will receive a “Battle of the Badges” t-shirt for taking part.

Note, blood is being screened following donations for COVID-19 to help stop the spread of the virus, along with platelet and plasma donations.

For those interested, here are the requirements from the American Red Cross for donating blood.
