Aragon Police donations installed in vehicles, upgrades completed while City Hall closed

The Aragon Police Department received a recent donation of equipment for a cruiser and the one of the police’s pickup truck, and have been making improvements at the office while city hall is closed down.

Chief Brad Loyd and Capt. Paul Mazzuca showed off a new cage to go within the truck – they’ll still have to get a seat to put in the back – along with a new console unit and printer to go within one of the city’s police cruisers donated from police supply company Troy Products of Montebello, California. Mazzuca said it was thanks to Milton Sanchez, and combined the equipment cost around $4,000.

“The Aragon Police Department and the City of Aragon very much appreciates the donation provided by Mr. Sanchez and Troy Products to use within our police vehicles,” Loyd said.

Among the upgrades is within the police cruiser console, with a new printer that can swivel around and give officers within easier access to tickets or warnings they’re giving out to drivers they’ve stopped for moving violations. Mazzuca said that makes it much easier for an officer who already have difficulty moving around with the equipment they carry around on their belt and bulletproof vests within the vehicle.

The equipment upgrades for the vehicles are already in service and being utilized. In the meantime, the department has been working to upgrade security and taking care of office tasks.

Those include a new wall built by Loyd and Mazzuca in spare time to separate the police department’s area of city hall from the main lobby and courtroom. It has a window to provide access for the public to seek information or pay for or hand in paperwork, like getting accident reports or requesting to speak to an officer.

A new metal detector recently arrived as well – purchased with SPLOST infrastructure funds – to be used to secure the Aragon Municipal Court and City Council Meeting Room and keep weapons from being brought in, like knives or firearms.

The city also has taken time to add security measures like new locks on many of the doors, and require keypad entry into certain parts of city hall like the police department as well.

Citywide, new computer upgrades have also been installed as well, including the police department.
