Aragon Historical Society sets date for ceremony unveiling bus crash victims

A crash that happened decades ago is being memorialized in the coming days as the Aragon Historical Society set a date for their ceremony to remember those who perished in the tragic accident.

Just down the road from where the crash between a school bus and an oncoming train is the Aragon Historical Society building at Pittman Park, and a plaque is being installed to honor the seven young children who died during the incident in 1974.

The AHS set the date for October 19 at the AHS building, with a ceremony set to begin at 11 a.m.

Light refreshments will be available for attendees.

The Historical Society welcomes all to participate in the ceremony, and hopes that some of the 73 survivors of the wreck will come out and take part as well.

Seven children died in the October 1974 wreck between the bus and a maintenance train at Wolf’s Store where the railroad crossing is located on New Prospect Road.

Check back for more information following the upcoming ceremony on October 19.
