Look for the Aragon City Council to take care of several items on their agenda for the August 2020 session this evening, including a decision on the millage rate coming up.
The council gathers at 6 p.m. for their work session, and then will hold a public hearing to allow people to comment on the millage rate at 6:45 p.m. before they move into the regular session at 7 p.m.
On the agenda for the evening is a decision on the 2020 millage rate for the city – set to roll back for the year – plus some additional items up for a vote. That includes the proposal for a second lease for a Ricoh printer to be used by the Aragon Police Department, which is set to be paid for out of the SPLOST infrastructure fund.
Council members are also voting on the surplus of several items that includes a 2003 Ford Explorer and equipment from the Public Works department, will settle on the FY 2021 budget finally, and comments from the Mayor and Council before adjourning.
As the council continues through the year, they are one person short after the resignation of Candace Seiz in July. Currently, a qualification period is underway that continues through Friday at noon at the Polk County Board of Elections to fill the seat on the November ballot.
Call the city at 770-684-6563 for more information on the requirements to become a council member. The fee due at qualifying is $36. As of Wednesday, the only candidate to sign up for the seat so far is former Public Works director Daniel Johnson.
